Polyurea Coatings History

Polyurea coatings and linings were introduced in the late 1980s and from the start, it has set itself in a different class from the conventional urethane/epoxy technology. This has been primarily due to the unique characteristics of the technology, both in processing and performance.

There is now a new class of polyurea system: the Two Component Polyurea Coating System is the latest technology in the protective coating industry. Polyurea is a unique technology in its self and cannot be compared to other coatings. It is known for its rapid dry time (typically) less than 30 seconds achieved without use of a catalyst.

The rapid dry time is very consistent over a broad temperature range. Now in the 21st century, the world of polyurea is bigger and better than ever, exceeding all expectations from its humble beginnings in the late 1980s.

It is now used in huge football stadiums to the hulls of super-tankers and protecting the military of some of the largest nations in the world.

Polyurea is a unique solution in any environment, resistant to salt water and stops corrosion, whether on land or off-shore. The possibilities are endless. The industry is now looking to the future and even carrying out tests on its use as protective body armour.

Continuous development of new raw materials will move polyurea to a higher level whilst preserving the uniqueness of the technology.Read more...
